“I am primarily a multi media artist. I really like mixing it up to obtain a desired
impact. I may begin with collage or watercolor, add in encaustic, move onto oil
pigment sticks, cold wax and soft pastels. I hope to present different stages of my
process in this presentation.” – Mira White

Oct 15, 2017 Chapter Meeting with Melanie Marchant

Melanie Marchant – Encaustic Painting: Ancient and Modern

Please join us on Sunday, Oct 15th @ 1:00 pm, University Art, J Street, Sacramento for this *free event. (*although…gotta say, a donation would be pretty awesome)   **Register Now**

Got questions about Encaustic Art?

Melanie has answers:

  • Where did this medium come from?
  • What’s all this about ancient Greek portraits?
  • Why did it virtually vanish for 2000 years?
  • And how did it reappear in contemporary (experimental) use?

Melanie will bring examples of both ancient and modern encaustic art, showcasing a spectrum of techniques.  She has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Don’t miss our local treasure! This is an excellent opportunity to bring your questions and quandaries to a master in art and encaustic. Her down to earth approachable nature makes Melanie an ideal teacher who encourages, shares — and more than that: she cares deeply about art.

Melanie Marchant comes with an armload of pigments, paintings, tools, both ancient  and modern. She has a clear understanding of the encaustic big picture. She’s an art historian, nationally recognized iconographer, published illustrator  and retired Sac State art professor.  Her work now is contemporary, experimental and ENCAUSTIC.
