New Show Opportunities

SWA invites you to enter the jury selection process for our fifth membership show: Luminous Layers.

The show will be juried by encaustic and mixed media artist Linda Nunes, and installed at the Mills Arts & Cultural Center (The MACC) in Rancho Cordova. Luminous Layers will run from July 21 through August 10, 2018.

Important Dates:

  • Wed. July 18, 10:30am – noon  –   Drop off work for jury process
  • Wed. July 18, 1:30 – 2:30pm  –  Pick up unselected work
  • Sat. July 21, Noon – 5:00pm  –  Family and Friends Artist Reception
  • Sat. August 11, 10:00am – noon  –  Post show art pick up

Adele Shaw – The Infinite Pattern: creating patterns while working with encaustic paint (and how to bind an Encaustic Artists Book)

In this demonstration Adele will explain use of tools and materials to facilitate patterns under, in and on top of an encaustic surface. She will also explore less popular materials and how to build and bind an artists book.

Adele Shaw’s painting is influenced by the kinetic energy of the landscape and music. Her work is based in both impressionism and abstract expressionism, often eluding to the sublime power of nature.  She has been working with encaustics since 1998 and leading encaustic workshops since 2001. You can view her work at http://www.adeleshaw.com

We will also have a brief Member Show & Tell after the demo. It is always fun to see what everyone has been up to! Please bring 1 piece of encaustic art that you would like to share with the group and be prepared to share your inspiration and/or process for a maximum of 5 minutes.
